Department of Textiles is an attached department under Ministry of Textile and Jute which was established in 1978 under the then Ministry of Textiles. Before that it was a part of the Department of Industries under ministry of Industries. After creating a separate Department under Ministry of Textiles, Department of Textiles plays a vital role to develop private sector Textile Industries and Handloom Industries. After establishing Board of Investment, the sponsoring function of textile sector is handed over to Board of Investment. In order to fulfill the huge demand of Textile Technologist and skilled manpower for textile sector Department of Textiles is looking after the public sector Textile education only.

Department of Textiles has successfully completed 7 (seven) projects aimed at modernizing the textile sector and increasing the number of Textile Educational Institutions throughout the country. At present there are 8 (eight) different projects are in implementing stage.
 
Since Department of Textiles is controlling Textile Engineering colleges, Textile Institutes and Textile Vocational Institutes, this website will be helpful in getting information for national and international parties, development practitioners, promoters, researchers, policymakers and development partners even for the rural students easily and within short time. The beneficiaries will facilitate instant sharing of their views by this website.
